During my three-month residency as an Affiliated Artist at the American Academy in Rome, supported by the 2025–2026 Alma Schapiro Prize through the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art, I developed several interconnected bodies of work. This series of drawings records my encounters with Greco-Roman, Renaissance, and Baroque sculpture in museums, archaeological collections, and public spaces throughout Rome, Naples, and Florence. Executed entirely on site in graphite, brown pencil, and white chalk, the drawings range from brief thirty-minute studies to works revisited over multiple sittings totaling as much as nine hours. Together, they reflect an ongoing commitment to drawing as a practice of sustained attention.
